DATA INTEGRITY STATEMENT

Source Data: FY2025 outlays and receipts use Treasury Fiscal Data MTS Table 9 (September fiscal year-end). Budget authority uses USASpending reporting period 12.

Scope: Read Outlays from Treasury MTS and Budget Authority from USASpending. FY2025 figures must not be mixed across metrics.

About the federal spending data on this page

The federal view opens on the Monthly Treasury Statement: what the government took in, what it paid out, and the gap between the two. Receipts are broken out by source — individual income tax, payroll contributions, corporate tax and customs — and outlays by the agency that spent them.

Alongside it sits the award data from USAspending, which shows where money left the government: which agencies obligated the most, and which contractors, states and institutions received it. The two answer different questions, so both are kept on the page rather than merged into a single total.

Figures on this page are shown for FY2025. ImpactLine does not add its own estimates or fill in values a government has not published — read the methodology and sources for how each figure is assembled.
